Lima In-Person Gathering — UAP Observation and Recording Protocol

Objective

Apply a minimum viable UAP observation and recording protocol in the field, balancing technical rigor, personal safety, and ethical care. The session concludes with the construction of a homologated logbook for future comparative research.

Itinerary (UTC-5 Lima)

  • 16:00 – 16:20 · Check-in, safety briefing, and ethical framework
  • 16:20 – 17:00 · Instrumentation & setup: cameras, smartphones, ISO, focus, and timestamps
  • 17:00 – 18:00 · Practical Exercise 1 · Mindful observation and visual sweep techniques
  • 18:00 – 18:15 · Break + Field checklist review
  • 18:15 – 19:15 · Practical Exercise 2 · Recording: photo/video capture and unbiased notation
  • 19:15 – 20:00 · Debrief and shared logbook construction (data structure and preservation)

The exact venue location will be emailed to confirmed participants for safety and logistical reasons.

What to Bring

  • Smartphone or camera with 100% battery (and a power bank).
  • Tripod (if available).
  • Comfortable clothing and a light jacket for evening temperatures.
  • Field notebook/logbook and pen.
  • Water and simple snacks.

Field Protocol Summary

  1. Safety First: Evaluate surroundings, traffic, and weather conditions.
  2. Instrumentation: Perform quick verification tests (focus, ISO, stabilization).
  3. Mindful Observation (3–5 min): Centered breathing, peripheral awareness.
  4. Recording: Avoid real-time interpretation; record factual data (heading, elevation angle, duration).
  5. Debrief: Sign field logs, consolidate timestamps and GPS coordinates.

Ethics and Confidentiality

Respect for the environment and participant privacy is paramount. No footage containing sensitive personal data will be published without explicit consent. A CC BY-NC license is recommended for academic data sharing.

Weather and Cancellations

In the event of severe weather, the gathering will be rescheduled with 24 hours notice sent to registered emails. If you cannot attend the rescheduled date, your spot can be transferred to the next available session.

Certificate

A digital certificate of completion will be issued to participants who complete the full session and submit the verified field checklist.
